Alexis:
Hello.
Nikolas:
Oh, hi.
Alexis:
You are not allowed to get trapped in a fire, a flood, a cave-in,
a hostage situation, or any other kind of disaster ever again. Do
you hear me?
Nikolas:
I love you, too, Alexis. Sit down.
Alexis:
All right. They're going over the damage with the insurance companies
right now, and as soon as they figure that out, they'll be ready
for private donations. Do you have your checkbook ready?
Nikolas:
Yes, Edward Quartermaine has already contacted me. As soon as they
get an estimate on the reconstruction, I'll send a donation.
Alexis:
Waiting for someone?
Nikolas:
I'm sorry. I'm a little distracted right now.
Alexis:
Anyone I know?
Nikolas:
No, but I'm sure you'll recognize her as soon as you see her.
Alexis:
Hmm, a Woman who looks just like Emily. That's kind of a shock to
you, huh?
Nikolas:
How do you continue to remain so unflappable? If I were to say to
you right now -- hey, guess what, Alexis? I met a real pretty alien
today. You would calmly inquire, "From what planet?"
Alexis:
Okay, so you met a Woman who looks like Emily, and she's from Mars?
Nikolas:
Yes, exactly. No, her name is Rebecca Shaw.
Alexis:
That's a nice name.
Nikolas:
Thank you. Can we be serious now? Thank you. So at first I thought
I was imagining her, but then everyone else started to see her,
too, and had the same reaction I did. Well, not exactly the same
reaction, but you know what I mean.
Alexis:
I think I do.
Nikolas:
She's staying at this hotel. Aside from that, I know very little
about her.
Alexis:
How little?
Nikolas:
Almost nothing. I don't know where she's from, who her family is.
I don't even know if it's possible she's related to Emily.
Alexis:
Well, did you ask?
Nikolas:
Of course I asked her, and she insists she has no idea who Emily
is. I just find it unlikely that she looks so much like Emily, yet
there's no connection somehow.
Alexis:
Well, what's your best guess?
Nikolas:
I don't know. She didn't know her dad because he died when she was
two or three. And I don't think that her mother would have kept
a sibling from her, especially knowing that she was dying and that
would have left Emily alone, which brings me back to zero. I must
be missing some connection here. I have to be.
Alexis:
Please don't take this the wrong way, but even if there were some
sort of connection, what difference would it make?
Nikolas:
If Rebecca has a connection to Emily, I want to know what it is.
Alexis:
I get that. It's just what if she doesn't, then what are you going
to do?
[Nikolas
stammers]
Nikolas:
Nothing. I just want to know why fate has put her in front of me.
That's all.
Alexis:
Or maybe you're hoping that she's like Emily in more than just her
looks.
[Nikolas
laughs]
Nikolas:
I don't know what I'm hoping, okay?
Alexis:
Just wondering if you're -- what with Emily gone, that you want
Rebecca to be the next best thing.
Nikolas:
No. No, there is no "next best thing." No one can take
her place. I love Emily, and I always will. No one could even come
close to what she meant to me.
Nikolas:
I know. I probably pushed Rebecca too hard. But if I could just
get her to sit down with me for a minute so I can explain to her
who Emily was, what she meant to me, and to everyone else, then
maybe she would be open to the potential of a connection, no matter
how distant.
Alexis:
I can see this means a lot to you. I really hope it works out for
you.
Nikolas:
But you wouldn't bet on it, right?
Alexis:
What I will bet on is how much I love you. And I
always want you to be happy.
Nikolas:
Thank you. Bye.
